Suzuki Music
Ms. Shelley Holland-Moritz directs a staff of several violin teachers. Suzuki Violin lessons are part of our curriculum. Children may begin studying the violin at age 4, or even at age 3 after consulting with the teacher.
Preschoolers begin in a "Pre-Twinkle" class (that is, before they play Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star). They practice with a box violin, learning how to hold a real violin and bow, and training their ears in rhythm and melody. When their teachers deem them ready, they may graduate to a real violin, a tiny one.
Students receive one group lesson each week, in a small group with others at the same ability level. Parents may attend the lesson if they wish. Ms. Shelley sends home a detailed practice sheet, and often holds evening classes for parents to help them practice with their children. There are two concerts each year, one, at winter holiday time, for schoolmates, and a more formal concert in the spring for parents.
